On Saturday, Lakes Martial Arts held an all-day Instructor Leadership Training Seminar at their new location, the Armatage Recreation Center.

On Saturday January 23, special guests Master Matt Blomquist and Mr Jharen Haynes joined Mr. Kern as they taught the Lakes Martial Arts Leadership Team new skills required to teaching martial arts. The action-packed day was filled theory and practice (and a good workout!) to help train the future leaders for the new Armatage club opening on February 25.

We thank Master Blomquist and Mr Haynes for sharing their leadership and enthusiasm of Songham Taekwondo!

In the first Lakes Martial Arts Instructor Leadership Training Seminar, topics included:

  • Learning "secret" leadership skills using the nine qualities of technique
  • The importance of being a role model
  • How to plan a class (with pace and peak)
  • How to observe, diagnose and prescribe using methods of instruction

Notice the new mats? The color of the Zebra mats were chosen by a vote in the class before, blue being the favorite.

Mr. Kern had them delievered the day before... special thanks to Charlie at Zebra Mats. These special mats were the same ones used at the 2015 ATA Fall Nationals Mr. Kern attended! How cool that we are able to train of the exact same floor used in competition??? Training with confidence means safety first!

Earning a black uniform is the first big step of accomplishment in becoming a Lakes Martial Arts instructor. I'm proud of the efforts of Jessica, Nina, Nora, Syvli, and Clay (Soon to be Mr. Hogen-Chin!). Here are some images from the day:

Special thanks to Nikki Friederich, Recreation Supervisor, at Armatage Parks for making this program possible and believing in us from the beginning. Mrs. Friederich was instrumental in helping Mr. Kern start the Pershing Park club back in 2013! We couldn't have done it without you!

It will be great to see more of Kris Stevens as he recently moved from Pershing to Armatage, too!
